In this program students and LNC staff will:
Kindergarten
- Classify animals based on different characteristics (e.g body coverings, body structures, habitats, behaviors.) EP-3.4.2
Grade 1
- This program highlights plants used for food and shelter in the various animals habitat. Ask about our plant program for needs of plants, plant parts life, cycles, etc.
Grade 2
- Explain that different organisms have different life cycles. EP-3.4.4
Grade 3
- Classify organisms into groups based on characteristics such as body structures. EP-3.4.2,04-3.4.2
- Make inferences about the relationships between external structures and their function in organisms. EP-04-3.4.1
Grade 4
- Describe and provide examples of physical or behavioral characteristics of plants and animals that make them better suited for survival in different environments. Identify characteristics that are inherited from their parents and others that are learned from interactions from the environment. 04-3.4.4
- Classify human interaction as beneficial or harmful to the environment using data/evidence to support conclusions. 04-4.7.2
Grade 5
- Explain that all organisms have common characteristics and maintain stable internal conditions. 05-3.5.2
- Predict an organism's response to an environmental stimulus based on its level of organization. 06-3.4.2
~ Birds in the Hood ~
You won't need a pith helmet to explore the birds that live in the neighborhood! View wild birds and their unique adaptations up-close and personal in the bird blind. Take a 'binocular hike' to see where they live and participate in hands-on activities.
In this program students and LNC staff will:
Kindergarten
- Explain the basic needs of animals, including the need for living space/shelter (habitat). EP-3.4.1
- Classify animals based on different characteristics (e.g body coverings, body structures, habitats, behaviors.) EP-3.4.2
Grade 1
- Identify basic parts of a plant. EP-3.4.3
Grade 2
- Explain that different organisms have different life cycles. EP-3.4.4
- Describe the growth and development of familiar animals throughout their life cycle. EP-3.4.4
- Explain that offspring are very much, but not exactly like their parents or one another. 04-3.4.4
Grade 3
- Classify organisms into groups based on characteristics such as body structures. EP-3.4.2,04-3.4.2
- Make inferences about the relationships between external structures and their function in organisms. EP-04-3.4.1
- Describe the cause and effect relationships existing between organisms and their environment. EP-4.7.1
Grade 4
- Describe and provide examples of physical or behavioral characteristics of plants and animals that make them better suited for survival in different environments. Identify characteristics that are inherited from their parents and others that are learned from interactions from the environment. 04-3.4.4
