LNC Summer Camps are a great way for kids to learn about nature while having fun! Camps at Louisville Nature Center offer fun games, guided hikes in the nature preserve, and exciting nature study for budding naturalists--ages 4-12! Our camps provide lots of hands-on learning about the local wildlife and habitats found in Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve, a 41-acre forest and outdoor classroom.

Summer Camp Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available for the LNC summer camps. Attendees pay 50% of the camp cost; the remaining 50% will be covered by the scholarship funds. Any student currently receiving reduced lunch is eligible to apply. Please contact the Nature Center for details.

2013 LNC Summer Camp season is right around the corner and we are ready and excited. Most of the camps will be full day camps, as there were many requests for them. You will note that there is quite a variety and camps for many interests. We can't wait for your campers to participate!

HARRY POTTER: THE FIRST FOUR BOOKS
June 17 to 21, 2013
9:00am to 4:00pm

Ages 8 to 12
You won't need a spell book to uncover the magic of the natural world in this camp based on the first four Harry Potter books. Through exploration of the Beargrass Creek Nature Preserve, campers will study potions, herbology, astronomy and defense against the dark arts as well as ways of seeing and magical creatures. The ever popular quidditch game will also played every morning -- this year according to international rules -- so campers will need to bring a broom!
Cost: $170 members; $210 non-members

WILD ABOUT THE ARTS CAMP

Ages 6 to 12
Let the wilderness found at the Louisville Nature Center inspire you at this exciting art and nature camp! In the morning we will work with clay, paint, printmaking and other fun materials and we will also spend time in the preserve and bird blind.
Unpack your lunch, and get ready for the afternoon; Shine Studio is back and will be on site for music, movement, yoga, drumming and hooping, indoors and out!
Cost: $170 members; $210 non-members

YOUNG EXPLORERS

Who lives in the woods? We will explore the trails and gardens as we look for animals, flowers and bugs that live in the woods and enjoy related games and crafts.

BUG HUNTERS
July 1 to 3, 2013 (Note: This is a 3-day camp.)

Ages 8-12
Join us as we study and stalk the most diverse group of animals on our planet. From looking at insects in ancient amber to going on a bug safari, we'll have more insect activities than you can shake a stick at (a walking stick insect, that is).
Cost: $100 members; $110 non-members

NURTURING GRACE
for Girls 10 to 15 years old
July 29 to August 2, 2013, 9am to 4pm
This is a camp for girls who are transitioning to womanhood. At Shine, we are devoted to nurturing a graceful life-- and what better time to create your graceful life than as you cross the threshold into womanhood!

We will experience movement - Yoga, Hooping and Nia, including the Martial Arts of T'ai Chi, Tae Kwon Do and Aikido, to increase body awareness and comfort with changing bodies. We will also discuss the media portrayal of young girls and women and how that may affect us.

We will experience journaling, visual arts and music, including song-writing, to offer an expressive outlet for the emotional transitions that young girls often experience as they journey the path to womanhood.

We will experience food, and how food can be good medicine! We will learn about whole foods, juicing, herbal teas that are beneficial, essential oils and CHOCOLATE!!!

We will experience community, and how a circle of women is a powerful support at any age.
