Volunteer oppportunities
If you enjoy the outdoors and sharing your love of nature with others, then you will definitely enjoy volunteering at the Louisville Nature Center!
Check our list of upcoming events.

NOTE: VOLUNTEER TRAININGS ARE SCHEDULED PERIODICALLY -- Call LNC at 458-1328 between 9am - 4pm for additional information on volunteering; or check back to this webpage for future training dates.

At trainings, for new and experienced volunteers, we do an in-depth training session on one of our school programs as well as a general overview and information.
The training session will include enrichment, perhaps a hike, and food!

The Louisville Nature Center offers nature programs to schools, scouts, and others interested in nature education. The only requirements to assist with our programs are that you have a love of nature and the ability to work with children.

NOTE: The Nature Center also has the need for help with office work, cleaning, gardening and other jobs for which training is not required.

Join the Louisville Nature Center for R R & R
Join us in our mission to Remove invasives, Rescue plants and Replant them in Beargrass Creek KY State Nature Preserve. The Nature Center needs individuals and groups to help in this massive effort to restore the preserve to its natural state. Group leaders will be available throughout the fall and winter months to direct volunteers in this effort.

Are you part of a group that would like to assist with an earth friendly initiative? This may be the project for you. The nature center is seeking school groups, scouts, special needs individuals, garden clubs or individuals looking for a worthwhile project. This is a great opportunity for students to earn service hours or scout groups to complete Eagle Projects. This project is ideal for business groups who want to make a group contribution to the community.

No experience or special skill is needed, and participants will learn to identify the common threats found at LNC, many that may be lurking in your own backyard. Groups interested in a long term commitment may adopt their own space in the preserve and watch as their special spot gets restored back to its natural beauty. Volunteers can commit to working a few hours on a single day or sign up to assist over a period of months. All volunteers must be able to follow simple instructions and have the ability to hike, at a steady pace, through the woods.

Work dates are scheduled at various times of the day and week to accommodate a variety of participant schedules. Call (502) 458-1328 between 9am and 4pm Monday through Friday to sign up and to learn more about this program.

Our most popular volunteer activity is being a LNC volunteer naturalist. Volunteer naturalists assist the LNC staff with presenting nature programs and leading hikes through Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve. Volunteers can give as much time as they would like in assisting with our education programs. We have school groups visiting almost every day of the week for our 2-hour program.

Our brief training program provides volunteers with all the information and knowledge to get started. No previous wildlife knowledge is required---just an interest in learning more about nature in general and in furthering the Louisville Nature Center's mission of providing nature education and encouraging stewardship in an urban forest. And 'refresher course' sessions are provided regularly for all of our volunteers.

In addition to volunteer naturalists, we often need assistance with greeting visitors at our special events and providing them with information about the Nature Center and the Beargrass Nature Preserve. If you enjoy meeting new people, please consider offering your talents to the Nature Center as a volunteer greeter.
