If you enjoy the outdoors and sharing your love of nature with others, then you will definitely enjoy volunteering at the Louisville Nature Center!

Our most popular volunteer activity is being a LNC volunteer naturalist. Volunteer naturalists assist the LNC staff with presenting nature programs and leading hikes through Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve. Volunteers can give as much time as they would like in assisting with our education programs. We have school groups visiting almost every day of the week for our 2-hour program.

Our brief training program provides volunteers with all the information and knowledge to get started. No previous wildlife knowledge is required---just an interest in learning more about nature in general and in furthering the Louisville Nature Center's mission of providing nature education and encouraging stewardship in an urban forest. And 'refresher course' sessions are provided regularly for all of our volunteers.

In addition to volunteer naturalists, we often need assistance with greeting visitors at our special events and providing them with information about the Nature Center and the Beargrass Nature Preserve. If you enjoy meeting new people, please consider offering your talents to the Nature Center as a volunteer greeter.
Check our list of upcoming events.

There are many other ways to volunteer at the Louisville Nature Center. Almost any skill is needed and appreciated at LNC, including:

  • Help maintain the native plant and butterfly gardens
  • Help rid the nature preserve of exotic and invasive plants
  • Maintain the bird feeders and pond
  • Assist with preparing mailings
  • Assist with special events
  • Design and build educational displays
  • Help build and maintain trails
  • Assist with clerical work and answering phones
  • Perform maintenance and carpentry services

To find out more about becoming an LNC volunteer, visit us at 3745 Illinois Avenue or call us at: (502) 458-1328.
We look forward to meeting you and appreciate your interest in helping us provide nature education and encourage stewardship in an urban forest!!
