Education Programs manager at Louisville Nature Center

The Louisville Nature Center is growing! We seek an Education programs manager that wants to help drive this growth. Join our wonderful working environment and help shape the future of an environmental non-profit!

The Company: Louisville Nature Center provides environmental education to people from all over the city, and encourages stewardship via restoration of our urban forest. We are supported by an inclusive, kind community of dedicated staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors. Our grounds include about 75 acres of forest, 2 miles of trails, a Nature Play Area, a bird viewing area, a large garden, and an education center with live reptiles and amphibians.

The Position:

The Education programs manager is responsible for the education programming at LNC. This person will supervise an AmeriCorps Member, as well as several part time educators. Programs include school field trips, day camps, birthday parties, scout programs, etc, and are geared primarily for children. School programs are all aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. This job is full time and salary is $34000.00 year.

Requirements:

A love of children is the highest priority! We work with a very diverse audience, including young children and people with disabilities.

Experience teaching in either a classroom or outdoor education setting.

Team player who approaches the job with a growth mind-set.

First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain it upon employment.

Knowledge of natural history.

Responsibilities:

Supervises education staff and volunteers

Schedules and coordinates staffing of education programs and events

Develops and conducts educational programs and instructs diverse ages of students in both a classroom and outdoor setting

Conducts outreach programs at schools, libraries, community centers, etc.

Organizes and ensures that all programs materials (copies, art supplies, etc.) are prepared in advance of the program

Coordinates and participates in set up and take down of programs – checking to ensure all areas (education room, bathrooms, library, lobby and grounds) are clean and materials are properly stored at the end of programs

Supervises groups of children, with highest safety standards in mind at all times

Louisville Nature Center is located in Louisville, KY, near the Louisville Zoo. Louisville has all the amenities of a big city, with the feel (and affordability!) of a small town. There is always something fun to do, and we have so much green space!

The Environmental Educators develop and lead programs, primarily for children, both indoors and out, centered around natural history. School programs are all aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. Seasonal; hours vary, $13/hr.

A love of the outdoors is the next highest priority. Natural history knowledge and enthusiasm for conservation is very helpful.
