Volunteer Coordinator

The Louisville Nature Center is growing! We seek a Volunteer Coordinator that wants to help support this growth. Join our wonderful working environment and help shape the future of an environmental non-profit!

The Company: Louisville Nature Center provides environmental education to people from all over the city, and encourages stewardship via restoration of our urban forest. We are supported by an inclusive, kind community of dedicated staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors. Our grounds include about 75 acres of forest, 2 miles of trails, a Nature Play Area, a bird viewing area, a large garden, and an education center with live reptiles and amphibians. 

Summary of Position:  The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruitment, training, supervision, and recognition of all volunteers involved with the organization. 

 Primary Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Works regularly in coordination with other staff members to determine volunteer needs

  • Records and tracks all volunteer information

  • Create and lead a new volunteer orientation

  • Trains and supervises volunteers when necessary

  • Conducts presentations to outside groups, such as businesses, universities, civic groups etc. for the purpose of recruiting new volunteers

  • Responsible for volunteer recognition opportunities and appreciation events 

  • Seeks out opportunities to conduct outreach at tabling events; developing a system to screen, track, and follow up with new volunteers

  • Maintains regular communication with all active volunteers to collect feedback, address issues and provide support to ensure a positive volunteer experience

Job Requirements:

  • Strong networking and people skills, with an ability to motivate individuals or groups

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office  

  • Public speaking and communications skills

  • Highly organized person with ability to work collaboratively as well as independently

  • Interest in and commitment to the mission of the Louisville Nature Center

Position is part time, 10-15 hours/week. Can be combined with PT Marketing and Development Associate position for the right candidate (see job postings on website.) $15/hr.

Marketing and Development Associate at Louisville Nature Center

The Louisville Nature Center is growing! We seek a Marketing and Development Associate that wants to help drive this growth. Join our wonderful working environment and help shape the future of an environmental non-profit!

The Company: Louisville Nature Center provides environmental education to people from all over the city, and encourages stewardship via restoration of our urban forest. We are supported by an inclusive, kind community of dedicated staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors. Our grounds include about 70 acres of forest, 2 miles of trails, a Nature Play Area, a bird viewing area, a large garden, and an education center with live reptiles and amphibians. 

Job Summary

Louisville Nature Center seeks a Marketing and Development Associate to provide support and execution of the organization’s fundraising and communications goals. A successful candidate in this position will be adept at communicating LNC’s mission and vision to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders. In addition, this position will be responsible for managing the organization’s donor databases, supporting marketing and fundraising campaigns, and assisting with special events. A successful candidate will be a focused, energetic, and team-oriented professional who has some experience in marketing and/or development.


Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications – 60%

  • Work with the LNC team to refine and articulate our brand.

  • Build overall awareness of the organization with the community.

  • Manage website content and make manual updates. 

  • Design and publish basic marketing pieces and graphics (i.e., solicitations, quarterly newsletters, annual reports, events calendar) 

  • Work with the Executive Director and the Board to create a marketing and communications strategic plan.

  • Write and send press releases.


Development & Fundraising - 30% 

  • Support the Executive Director to create and implement an annual development strategy that includes events and individual, corporate, and foundation giving, etc. 

  • Update and manage donor database (Bloomerang) and e-marketing databases (Constant Contact, etc.) 

Special Events/Other duties as assigned – 10%

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in marketing and/or fundraising for non-profits a plus. 

  • Strong attention to detail, and ability to work both collaboratively and with minimal supervision

  • Proficiency in MS Office and social media platforms; ability to easily learn new web applications

  • Solid written and oral communication skills

  • Interest in and commitment to Louisville Nature Center’s mission is a plus.


Position is part-time, about 10-15 hours/ week. Position can be combined with the Volunteer Coordinator position (see openings on our website) for the right candidate. Pay is $15/hr.
