The Louisville Nature Center Welcomes You

A truly unique community resource, the Louisville Nature Center offers wonderful opportunities for nature study and recreation--right in the heart of the city!
Bring a lunch and relax at our picnic tables or under the covered gazebo.

Among our unique features are: a native wildflower garden and pond, gardens that attract seasonal butterflies, hiking trails through the Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve, a one-of-a-kind bird blind, wildlife exhibits, Beargrass Creek watershed exhibit, a meeting room, a nature gift shop, and our library--a great place to do research and spend some time indoors when the weather is too hot, too cold or rainy to study nature outside.

Our mission is to provide nature education and encourage stewardship in an urban forest. We look forward to your visit!

Want to make a donation to LNC? Every dollar makes a difference in our continuing efforts to educate everyone in our community--adults as well as youth--about the natural world we all share.

Louisville Nature Center Promo by Bloom Media Club
Video narrated by Adison Schanie for the Louisville Nature Center. Includes footage of the Nature Center, interviews with Judy Gardner, Rosemary Bauman, and several Bloom Elementary students. Produced by the Bloom Elementary Media Club, Patrick Fitzgerald, Director. Features music by Contratopia, used with permission.

We are taking orders for rain barrels. Rain barrels collect, store, and divert rooftop runoff during a rain event. They are good for the environment and help save money on your water bill. The Louisville Nature Center has rain barrels available for $74 each; or $69 each for two or more. When we get thirty orders, we will call you to give you a deliver date and ask for payment.
The barrels come already assembled with a spigot, downspout adapter, and overflow spout. The assembly work is done for you by LNC volunteers and staff. Best of all, you can pick up your barrel right here at LNC. Call us at 458-1328 for more information. (download flyer)
One hundred percent of the rain barrel proceeds go toward helping LNC continue its mission.

The Nature Center's Meeting Room can be rented as a unique meeting place for groups who want a peaceful, natural setting! Perfect for reunions, retreats, or company gatherings.

At the Louisville Nature Center,
you can enjoy...
  • walking through our native wildflower gardens
  • seasonal butterflies and dragonflies in our gardens
  • viewing our indoor exhibits and mural
  • observing wildlife up-close in our bird blind
