Show description: three witches shakespeare is back with more Queer Elizabethan hijinks, with John Lyly’s 1588 play, Gallathea: A Forest Fantasy. A source of inspiration for some of Shakespeares greatest comedies, including Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this play features supernatural mischief in the forest, a spritely troublemaker, a clash between powerful magic wielders, and  young women dressing as boys to escape into the woods where they find love in unexpected places. Our production is set in 1987 at Camp Upon Avon, a summer sleepaway theatre camp in London (Kentucky). 

Age recommendation: 14+ Lyly play contains some mild swearing and references to sexuality. Younger folks are welcome to come as well, but we encourage parents to look at the script and make an informed decision.

Location / Seating: The play will take place around the treehouse section of the nature playground. This is accessible by taking the path that goes between the gazebo and the left hand side of the Nature Center. The play’s location is about a minute’s walk from the parking lot to the edge of the forest, and is located under the trees near Illinois avenue. This walk is fairly flat, and a mix of grass and dirt. There is also a path with more paving accessible by walking through the nature center, though the last bit of this walk does also consist of dirt and mulch. There will be some seating available at the performance location, but we encourage folks to bring their own camp chairs or seating, if possible. We will be out in the forest where there are flowers, dirt, and bugs! Though we won’t be going on a hike, be prepared to be outside! After the show it is our plan to offer camp themed snacks in the concrete area in front of the Nature Center building.
