If you enjoy the outdoors and sharing your love of nature with others, then you will love volunteering at the Louisville Nature Center! Volunteers support LNC in a variety of ways. Whatever your skills and interests, you can help to inspire environmental stewardship in our community.

Forest Restoration

Forest Restoration Assist with plant and trail maintenance in the 41-acre Beargrass Creek State Nature preserve. Work under supervision to remove invasive species and plant native species. No experience necessary, but volunteers must be able to lift up to 25 lbs, hike in all types of weather, and use basic tools such as loppers and shovels. Work days are scheduled ahead, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-1pm during warm months and 1-3pm during cold months. LNC’s Forest Manager Jen leads these groups and communicates about changes and cancellations. This position is open to volunteers ages 18 and older, or 16 and older with adult supervision.

Groundskeeping

Groundskeeping Keep the grounds around the Nature Center looking beautiful by mulching, pulling weeds, and cleaning up litter. Equipment is provided. Volunteers work independently and can set their own schedule.. This is a great way to give back to the community while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine outside! Groundskeeping can be scheduled for anytime LNC is open Monday through Friday and most Saturdays 9am-4pm.

Handy Helper

Put your skills and tools to work and help the Louisville Nature Center with occasional projects like rain barrel assembly, repairing structures like the gazebo or picnic tables, painting or staining, building garden beds, and more. When we need help beyond the skills of our staff we hope to rely on volunteers to get things done!

Photography

Lend your photography skills to help get the word out about the Louisville Nature Center. Snap pictures of the Nature Center's flora and fauna, and/or photograph programs and events. Photos will be used for LNC communications and promotional materials. Volunteers must have their own photography equipment and be comfortable uploading and organizing files on a computer.
